Albert J. Mixan

Private First Class Albert J. Mixan of the 96th Infantry served in Leyte (with the liberation of the Philippines) and then served in Okinawa.

He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic service on April 10, 1945 in connection with military operations against the enemy on Okinawa Island. During an enemy counter attack, Private First Class Mixan crossed an open field in the face of heavy machine gun and sniper fire to retrieve a 60 millimeter mortar and ammunition. In a new position where he had dragged the gun, he set up and fired the mortar at the enemy who were forced to withdraw. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Mixan in the heroic action are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.

Private First Class Mixan's medals were the American Service Medal, the Asiatic in Pacific Service Medal, a Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Bronze Star Medal.
