Scot E. Thompson, ARMY

Scot was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 16, 1964. He was the eldest son of Jacqueline (Jackie) DeVoe and James (Eddie) Thompson. He passed away unexpectedly, from a heart attack, at his home in Beldenville, Wisconsin on December 19, 2025. Scot grew up in Omaha, where he attended St. Cecilia Elementary School, Cathedral High School, and graduated from Ralston High School in 1982.

As a youngster Scot enjoyed riding his bicycle all over Omaha. Scot was very involved in Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout in September 1980 and an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow. He became a licensed Extra Class Amateur Radio operator (WBØWOT), a skill he utilized as a storm spotter with SKYWARN. He also enjoyed scuba diving and line repelling.

Upon his high school graduation, Scot joined the United States Army. He was a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served as a UH-60 Helicopter Crew Chief with the 1/17th CAV in 1983 during Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada). Upon leaving the military, he attended Iowa Western Community College and received an A & P (Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic) certification.

Scot then moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where he worked for the United States Customs Air Interdiction Team. During this time, Scot met his wife, Sara Bartlett. They were married on October 7, 1989, in the Lifelink III S-76 helicopter, while it flew over the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Scot was employed as a helicopter mechanic for Lifelink III and North Air Care. In 1990, Scot and Sara moved to their home in Beldenville, Wisconsin.

During Operation Desert Storm (1991), Scot was a private contractor with Aeromaritime, who provided support to the United States military. He was based in Saudi Arabia where his work centered on crash investigation and aircraft engine maintenance. He then returned to working with Lifelink III. Scot ultimately became an Investigator with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). His career spanned 30 years, in which he performed certification and surveillance of Air Carriers and Repair Stations. His additional duties included enforcement of FAA regulations and investigation of aircraft accidents.

Scot was very proud of his two sons, Sean and Ryan, and all their accomplishments. Both young men graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and are serving as officers in the Navy Reserve.

Scot will be deeply missed and forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
