Ronald Keith Lane
Enlisted 10 March 1964 as a heavy weapons infantryman, but on completion of training and a short delay at Fort Gordon, GA I was assigned to Korea as an M-60 machine gunner. While there, I received acceptance to helicopter flight school and began training at Ft. Wolters, TX in November 1965, and completed training in September, 1966 from Ft. Rucker, AL, as Warrant Officer One.
A short assignment to the 191st Assault Helicopter Company (AHC), Ft. Bragg, NC as we formed the unit and then deployed to Vietnam and Camp Bearcat in May 1967. Most of us were sent to other units for in-country training for at least two weeks so I went to Cu Chi and the 116th AHC Hornets before being reassigned to the 155th AHC Stagecoaches in Ban Me Thuot, Central Highlands.
I was Stagecoach 20 until August "67 when I became Falcon 5 of the gun platoon until I rotated back to the U.S. and Ft. Wolters as an OH-23 instructor until I was released from Active Duty in September 1969.
For the next nineteen years I was in the National Guard or Army Reserve while serving as a deputy sheriff, police officer, and state trooper. In 1988 I became a fulltime Reservist to fly airplanes until I retired in 2005. Eventually, I qualified in TH-55, OH-23, OH-58, UH-1 A, B, C, D, and H, CH-47 A, U-8, U-21, and C-12.
In 2005 I became a DA Civilian until final retirement in 2015.
Notable assignments included 2-228 Aviation Battalion Headquarters (HQ), NASJRB Willow Grove; HQ, 244th Aviation Brigade, Ft. Sheridam IL; HQ, US Army Reserve Command, Ft. McPherson, GA;, Army Reserve Office, Installion Management Command, Arlington, VA; Garrison HQ, Camp Humphries, So. Korea; Garrison HQ, Fort Knox, KY; and HQ US Army South, Ft. Sam Houston, TX.
