Victor E. Surber

Victor E. Surber was born on May 4, 1945 in Omaha, NE. Vic joined the Marine Corps in 1964 and was deployed to Vietnam in 1965. Vic served in Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines as an Artillery Observer, also known as a “Forward Observer”. He was responsible for directing artillery and mortar fire onto enemy targets. After serving 4 years, he was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of Sergeant (which is the pay grade of E-5).

In 1968, Vic was happy to return home where he loved spending time with his 3 children, 4 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vic had such love and affection for family and friends.

After a career of 35 years, Vic retired from the Teamster Trucking Industry and became active in the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) where he managed the DAV lounge and thrift store. Vic also held the offices of Chaplain and Adjutant for the General MacArthur DAV Chapter 2 in Omaha, NE.

Vic had a fantastic sense of humor and great respect and love for his country.

Vic and his wife, Yvonne, loved to travel. Vic lived life to the fullest until he passed away on June 9, 2018.

Vic is greatly missed and loved by family and friends.
