Terry L. Witt

Terry served in combat in Vietnam from Dec '65 to Jun 66 while assigned to the 25th Infantry Division, 35th Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Battalion in the reconnaissance section of the headquarters company.

The 3rd Brigade operated as a separate brigade and came under operational control of the First Field Force. As such his platoon was attached to the 101st Airborne Division, the 1st Cavalry Division, and the 173rd Airborne Brigade because of his abilities as a morse code operator in calling in naval gun fire, close support, and artillery fire.

He served mainly in the Pleiku area and took part in many combat operations in the Central Highlands to include Operation Paul Revere, Operation Taylor, Operation Garfield, and Operation Lincoln which was in the area of the Chu Pong Mountains and the la Drang Valley.

He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. His unit, 1/35 Infantry Regiment was awarded several awards of which Terry, having been a member of the unit, is entitled to wear. These include the Meritorious Unit Commendation, three Republic of Vietnam Crosses of Gallantry with Palm and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal.
