Roger L. Schnider, Army

WO1 Roger Lloyd Schneider started his tour of duty on October 7, 1967. He was assigned to the 1st Calvary Division’s 2nd Battalion, 20th Aerial Rocket Artillery unit as a gunship pilot. On February 2, 1968, Roger was killed in action from a single gunshot wound received while piloting a UH-1B Huey helicopter on a resupply mission. He was hit by hostile small arms ground fire in the Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

Roger enlisted in the Army on September 6, 1966. After basic training he volunteered for the Army Aviation Service and took his primary flight training in Ft. Wolters, Texas. Next, he took advanced pilot training and special guided missile training at Ft. Rucker, Alabama. Roger had a Private Pilot License prior to enlisting. His goal was to become an airline pilot after serving in the Army.
