I noticed that there was no additional information on Jerry, who lived across the street from us in Omaha. I remember him as a really nice young man, verfy friendly. HIs father was a Master Sgt in the Army reserves, as I recall. I attended Jerry’s funeral and I do visit his grave. His tour in Vietnam began on March 8, 1968. He was a Lance Corporal serving as a rifleman with A Co, 1st Bn, 3rd Marine Div. Ne died April 17th, 1968, north of Dong Ha. He is buried in Holy Sepuchre Cemetery in Omaha, Nebraska.
The source of this information, as listed in Family Search is: Records with Unit Information on Military Personnel Who Died During the Vietnam War, created ca. 1983 – 12/18/2005, documenting the period 06/08/1956 – 10/10/2003. If his family members were aware of the memorial, they could add more about Jerry. The only information I have on them is from his obituary in 1968. I have been gone from the neighborhood since 1969. the Garcia family moved after that, I believe.
Respectfully,
Charles E. Monico, USARV October, 1971-April, 1972.
