Jerome N. Henn, ARMY

Jerome Henn was born on November 28, 1915 along with his twin sister, Germaine, on a farm near Petersburg, Nebraska. When they were 6 years old, the Henn family moved to a different farm 3/4 of a mile west of Petersburg. He grew up on this farm which is still in the family.

Jerome graduated from the Petersburg Public School. In 1941 he joined the Army Corps of Engineers and served with them through World War II, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. In 1943 he married Thelma Olk and, of this union, one daughter, Pamela, was born.

After the war, Jerome joined American Legion Post 334 in Petersburg, Nebraska. He served as the Commander of the American Legion of the State of Nebraska in 1964. From 1965 to 1975 he served as the National Executive Committeeman, helping many vets get their benefits.

Jerome also served for 30 years as a rural mail carrier out of the Petersburg Post Office. He also ran the family farm until he retired and moved to town.

Jerome passed away on December 31, 2003 in the Neligh Nursing Home. He was buried with Military Honors in Saint John the Baptist Cemetery near Petersburg.
