Wayne L. Farmer, USAF

Wayne L. Farmer was a patriotic Air Force pilot who flew the first jet fighters, and then due to his experience was tasked with flying the first jet bombers. Highlights of his flying career included the F-86, the B-47, and the B-58 Hustler. He ultimately saw combat in the O-1 Bird Dog flying support for the 101st Airborne where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in Vietnam in 1968. The final years of his career were spent participating in the highest levels of nuclear targeting for the United States at SAC Air Base in Omaha. Wayne's passion for flying continued throughout his career, as an instructor pilot, flying "Alert" missions around the world, carrying nuclear weapons, or firing smoke rockets into the jungles of Vietnam, or shuttling generals to meetings, he loved to fly, and continued into private aviation after retirement. He was always the consummate professional throughout his 23 year career. Having flown twice the speed of sound and spent countless hours in the heavens protecting our country, believing in the motto of "Peace Through Strength." He embodied the true American spirit of patriotism, and sacrifice for his country.
