Shon E. Olson
Shon graduated from Waverly High School in 1987, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country proudly in Operation Desert Shield/Storm before an Honorable Discharge in 1991. Shon held various job titles over the years and was known for his vast knowledge in construction, framing and MacGyver type skillset. There wasn’t a job out there he couldn’t do or too big to tackle, he loved a challenge.
Shon was part of various organizations, growing up he was a talented gymnast and was the 1982 USA Nebraska State All-Round Champion. He was a founding member of Heroes Into Homes, an organization that fought to end veteran homelessness. He was a Life Member of VFW Post #4626 and the Marine Corps League Cornhusker Detachment formerly serving as Detachment Commandant and State Commandant. He formerly volunteered for Southeast Rural, Ashland and Alvo Fire Departments where he served as Assistant Chief.
Shon earned the rank of Corporal, and his military decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 stars, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Shon was the epitome of the Marine’s motto Semper Fidelis – “Always Faithful”. Anyone that knew Shon knew they could count on him to always help when needed no matter the request. He had a vibrant personality that left an impression on everyone he met.
