Kevin Morrissey
Kevin Morrissey went to Creighton Prep High School and then to Creighton University. Upon graduation from college in 1967, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He attended Officer Basic at Fort Benning Georgia and then Fort Devins Massachusetts.
On his wedding day, February 10, 1968, to Mary Josepine Everhart, he received orders to deploy to Vietnam. Two weeks later he landed in Long Binh as the base was under attack during the TET offensive. He was given a .45 caliber pistol and put up in a hotel room in Saigon. “What was I supposed to do with a .45?,” he questioned. Kevin was then assigned to the First Air Cavalry Division as an Intelligence Officer. He loved helicopters. At times he flew on missions into Cambodia, even before the United States declared publicly that it had troops there. Some of these flights involved the recovery of drones that had been shot down.
After Vietnam, he was assigned to the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. There he continued to work in intelligence and often gave briefings to Colonels and Generals. President Nixon used one of his briefings to update the country on happenings in Vietnam.
In 1970 he moved his family back to Omaha Nebraska. He served in the Army Reserves and gave his country 28 years of service. Every summer during his time in the Reserves, he spent two weeks at the Pentagon. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Kevin was proud of his military service, especially serving his country during a time of war. He was awarded several medals and citations for his service. To name a few: the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal.
Kevin was a proud faith filled American, devoted husband, doting father and grandfather, amazing brother, and loving son.
He died on August 24, 2022, of pancreatic cancer.
Besides his wife of 54 years, Mary Jo Morrissey, Kevin was survived by children Julie (Tim) Seibold, Chris (Kip) Morrissey, and Katie Morrissey; grandchildren Aidan Morrissey, Andie Morrissey, Ryan Seibold, and Abby Seibold.
