Howard Ball,
Vice-President, NVVMF

A 1967 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High in Council Bluffs, Howard enlisted in the Marine Corps in July of 1968 at just 18 years of age. He served in Vietnam from January to December of 1969. Howard served as a forward observer on a mortar squad with the 1st Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment.

Howard returned home and eventually settled in the Omaha area and began working for Verizon Communications. After retiring from Verizon Communications, Howard continued to focus on veterans’ issues and service to his community assuming such leadership roles as President of the In Country Vietnam Motorcycle Club (ICVMC) and Treasurer of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 279.

"My passion for getting involved with this memorial is not only to honor the Nebraska veterans killed in Vietnam but also to make this memorial a history lesson about Vietnam so generations for years to come will learn facts that will be remembered about the war that changed America.”
